In man-riding applications, an additional safety system in accordance with EN 1808 is mandatory to secure the work basket or platform against falling. The RIGID OSL Series Overspeed Safety Lock is precisely engineered for this purpose.

The OSL Series Safety Lock is an independently mechanical device triggered by speed. It is small, light and compact, mounted directly on the suspended platform where the safety wire rope runs through it. When the working wire rope breaks or the hoist fails, causing the platform to descend rapidly, the OSL Safety Lock automatically and instantly locks the safety wire rope, securely catching the load and preventing the platform from falling.
The product series has not only obtained EU CE certification, but has also been rigorously tested at multiple times the rated load to ensure an extremely large safety margin, providing trustworthy safety protection for your suspended platforms.

The RIGID OSL Series Safety Lock delivers outstanding performance across all critical safety parameters:
Automatic Overspeed Detection & Locking The centrifugal triggering mechanism inside the OSL continuously monitors the speed of the safety wire rope. If the descending speed exceeds the preset safety threshold (30 m/min or 42 m/min), the centrifugal device triggers automatically, immediately driving the rope locking mechanism into action.
Self-Locking Clamping Technology The safety rope is firmly held between the clamping jaws, preventing any further slippage. The OSL employs an advanced self-locking design principle: the greater the load, the tighter the clamp grips. Meanwhile, the clamping jaw surface is specially designed with sufficient contact area to provide powerful braking force without damaging the wire rope.
Ultra-Short Locking Distance In the event of an accidental fall, the OSL Safety Lock completes locking within an extremely short distance (≤200 mm), effectively reducing the shock factor during a fall and maximizing protection for personnel.
Intuitive Operation & Monitoring
Transparent Sight Window: The lock body features a transparent observation window, allowing operators to visually inspect the rotation status of the centrifugal speed limiter at any time, ensuring proper device operation.
Dual Handle Design: Equipped with separate unlocking and locking handles. Simply rotate the unlocking handle clockwise to release; when needed, manually rotate the locking handle counter-clockwise to lock the wire rope.
Optional Electrical Trigger Detection (D Models) Models with the "D" suffix (e.g., OSL308D) feature a built-in microswitch. Once the safety lock is triggered and locks the wire rope, the microswitch immediately activates and issues a power-cut signal, shutting down the hoist to prevent further equipment damage.
Working Principle
The overspeed safety lock is mainly composed of the support seat, operation handle, rope locking device, and centrifugal triggering device. The safety steel wire rope is pressed onto the rope wheel under the centrifugal triggering device.
When the falling speed exceeds the limited value, the steel wire rope drives the rope wheel to rotate rapidly, causing the centrifugal triggering device to act. This immediately drives the rope locking device to lock the safety steel wire rope, preventing the suspended platform from continuing to fall.
The self-locking principle guarantees safety: the clamping jaws grip tighter as the load increases, making it physically impossible for the rope to slip once the device has been triggered.
