Step 1: Decide Your Process First — 1:1 or 2:1

This is the question you must answer before anything else. It determines the load capacity, speed, and cost of the whole system.

  • 2:1 process: The wire rope is reeved through a movable pulley for a 2:1 mechanical advantage — higher load capacity (typically 1,000 kg class), ideal for heavy guide rail installation and high-volume work. The trade-off: the steel wire rope is about twice the shaft height in length.

  • 1:1 process: The wire rope is suspended directly — lighter, more flexible platform (typically 400 kg class), ideal for low- and mid-rise, light-duty work. Wire rope length is roughly the shaft height.

  • Advanced option: For high-volume projects chasing maximum efficiency, there is the "car-as-platform" method — use the new elevator car itself as the work platform, driven by climbers, with a load capacity up to 4,000 kg in a 2:1 configuration. No platform assembly/disassembly — the car goes straight into service.

The rule is simple: check your shaft height, guide rail weight, and daily installation volume first — then decide the process. Choose wrong here and everything downstream is wrong.

Point 1: Look at the "After-Deduction" Rated Load

Many buyers only read the nameplate "rated load 1,000 kg". But remember: actual usable load = rated load − platform self-weight − climber weight − tool weight.

Take a typical configuration: a steel platform rated 1,000 kg with a self-weight of 390 kg (note: spec sheets usually list self-weight excluding the lifting device). That leaves about 600 kg of margin; after adding the climber (about 70 kg) and tools on site, you have roughly 500 kg of actual carrying capacity. All-aluminum platforms can weigh as little as the 150 kg class — meaning much more "payload" at the same rated load. The lighter the platform, the more valuable the same rated load — which is why leading manufacturers keep pushing aluminum lightweight design.

Point 2: Safety Is Non-Negotiable — You Need Dual Protection

An accident in a shaft is a serious matter. A qualified hoist must have two independent safety systems:

1.   Overspeed fall arrester: automatically locks the platform when descent speed exceeds the set value (e.g., 30 m/min), with a locking distance ≤ 200 mm, working with high-strength steel wire rope (e.g., Φ10.2 / Φ11.5).

2.   Safety tong: automatically clamps and locks when the wire rope loses tension — the second line of defense.

When evaluating, check three numbers: triggering speed, locking distance, and the arrester’s rated load. The more sensitive the trigger and the shorter the locking distance, the better. The best industry configurations use "fall arrester + safety tong" as a dual guarantee — if either one fails, the other catches you.

Point 3: The Climber (Power Core) — Check Four Indicators

The climber is the "heart" of the entire system:

  • Lifting speed: typically 6–18 m/min; multi-speed options are more practical (e.g., 9/18 dual-speed — slow for alignment, fast for lifting)

  • Motor quality: prefer German-brand motors, with customizable voltage/frequency

  • Protection rating: shafts are dusty and damp — at least IP55 with built-in thermal protection (e.g., TW)

  • Load limiting: a built-in mechanical load-limiting system that protects against overloading and rough operation

Point 4: Platform Material — Steel vs. Aluminum, Don’t Just Compare Prices

  • Steel platform: high strength, high load — suited to the 2:1 heavy-duty process, but heavier (approx. 390–460 kg)

  • Aluminum platform: light (approx. 150–200 kg), easier to handle and install — suited to the 1:1 process; all-aluminum platforms can stay under 200 kg

Rule of thumb: every 100 kg saved on platform weight is a leap in on-site handling and installation efficiency. Choose aluminum when the budget allows.

Point 5: Guide Rail Spacing Adaptability (DBG Spacing)

Guide rail spacing differs from project to project (1,200–3,000 mm is common). Your platform must adapt to different rail spacing — otherwise you need a new platform per project and costs explode.

Check: does the product series cover the full 1,200–3,000 mm range? Can individual platforms be bidirectionally adjusted within their specified range (e.g., 1,500–2,100 mm, 1,700–3,000 mm options)? Is adjustment quick — the best designs adapt to a new project in minutes.

Point 6: Is the Tool Chain Complete?

Scaffoldless installation is never just one hoist — it’s a full tool system:

  • MiniHoist (rail lifting hoist): dedicated tool for lifting guide rails in the shaft — look for wireless remote control, wire rope anti-detachment protection, and an optional single-phase power supply (handy for on-site temporary power)

  • Look for TÜV / SGS international certification on the complete machine and safety components

  • Check whether the supplier participated in drafting national standards (e.g., GB40160-2021, GB19155-2017) — companies that help write the standards are usually at the top of the industry domestically

  • Safety components (fall arresters) need separate certification — these are life-saving parts

Point 8: Supplier Capability — Evaluate Last, But Carefully

Equipment is a durable asset; service is a long-term account. Check three things:

4.       Export track record: experience serving demanding Western markets (USA, Germany, Spain, Brazil, etc.) — overseas reputation is the most honest reference

5.       Customization capability: different elevator OEMs have different car structures — can adapters and mounting brackets be customized? If the supplier can’t customize, you’ll hit a wall as soon as projects diversify.
